ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Trans-Care released a statement after Tuesday night's fatal ambulance collision near the intersection of 13th and Wheeler Avenue—when an ambulance on its way to an emergency hit a motorized bicycle carrying two 13-year-old girls—killing Autumn Poulter and sending Journey Loader to a hospital while Poulter's family gathered outside Trans-Care demanding justice as police continue their investigation.  WTHI-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce launched the Leadership Academy of West Central Indiana on Thursday to spark a new era of leadership in the Wabash Valley (the program is an update of the 2014 Wabash Valley Leadership Institute founded by Rachel Leslie and Susan Turner that graduated 166 students).  Tribune-Star

CRIME NEWS

  • Police are responding to a bomb threat at the Meijer store on Terre Haute’s east side and have evacuated the building while Explosive Detection K-9 Units are en route—residents are advised to avoid the area.  WTHI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana State University announced the 2025 recipients of its highest faculty honors—recognizing excellence in teaching, research, service and community engagement—at a Faculty Recognition Banquet on April 17th.  Tribune-Star
  • Vigo County Superintendent Dr. Chris Himsel spoke with WTWO’s Rick Semmler on Beyond The Stands to discuss Terre Haute North and South's planned move to the Sagamore Conference in 2026–27 and his vision for future athletics and academics in the district.  WTWO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a special meeting Wednesday, the Vigo County Council will consider a proposed settlement to raise pay for county court employees in line with a judicial mandate from October 2024—this order asked the council to increase wages as directed.  Tribune-Star
  • Indiana legislators passed bills on Thursday to study the absorption of would-be secessionist Illinois counties, examine noncompliant prosecutors, and expand local transportation funding — these measures now head to Gov. Mike Braun for review.  Tribune-Star
