COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Way of the Wabash Valley announced up to $2.7 million in matching grants — funds to support three local agencies in expanding childcare services, adding recovery spaces for women with children, and strengthening the local food network. The awards are part of Indiana United Ways’ Statewide Capital Projects Initiative.  Tribune-Star
  • Kadel's Hallmark in Terre Haute donated $1,000 to the Riley Children's Foundation from the sale of special ornaments at its 1800 Fort Harrison Road store. The donation supports the foundation's work with local families.  WTHI-TV
  • Terre Haute Catholic Charities invites everyone to free traditional Christmas meals today at Fishes and Loaves Soup Kitchen in the Ryves Youth Center (1356 Locust Street), with lunch served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and dinner beginning at 4:30 p.m.  WTHI-TV
  • The Wabash Valley Community Foundation hosts a holiday coffee event today at the Sullivan County History Museum from 9 a.m. to noon. Attendees may bring toiletries and hygiene products to support families in need across Clay, Sullivan, and Vigo counties.  WTHI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Emily Clapp and her vocal trio Dek of Hearts earned a wild-card spot in Tuesday night's finale of The Voice after viewers cast their votes on Monday—showing local talent on a national stage.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College has received a $125,000 planning grant from Lilly Endowment through its Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education initiative, the college said. The grant will support planning for new AI education programs.  Tribune-Star
  • John Collett was hired as coordinator of Vigo County School Corp athletic programs after the school board approved a personnel report Monday evening, and his appointment is pending final onboarding.  Tribune-Star

FINANCE NEWS

  • Indiana is exploring nuclear energy financing to boost baseload power as demand from data centers grows. A report from Energy Systems Network shows that up to 80% of initial costs may be covered by a federal loan guarantee + additional tax credits will help with the remaining expenses.  WTHI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Terre Haute announced Project Fix-em, a pilot program to offer affordable spay and neuter services for residents facing financial barriers to pet care. The mayor's office and Animal Control Commission lead this effort.  Tribune-Star

HEALTH NEWS

  • Union Health said that 96% of Regional Hospital staff have joined the system following a Certificate of Public Advantage approval for the merger last month.  WTHI-TV
