- ➤ Two philanthropic groups in Clay County donated $1,400 to Northview DECA on Dec.2 and $2,500 to Family Support Services on Dec.10 to support students and families. The grants help cover student fees and housing initiatives (both groups coordinate through the Wabash Valley Community Foundation). WTHI-TV
- ➤ Terre Haute food pantry Manna From Seven (501c3 not-for-profit) was awarded $2,500 as one of 36 community grants from the national Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation on Giving Tuesday 2025. Tribune-Star
- ➤ With temperatures below zero, warming centers in Clark, Edgar, and Sullivan counties offer relief for residents during emergencies; centers include libraries, senior centers, and churches with set hours or on an as-needed basis + call local dispatch for details. WTHI-TV

- ➤ Bradley Utz turned a 2021 knee injury into a creative side gig by hand-turning designer pens, rings and a shaving kit from wood and acrylic. He labels himself a huge pen snob (crediting his injury with inspiring his craft) and now sells his art locally. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Indiana State University icon Charlie Brown, who helped support students of all cultures, passed away + a service will be held Saturday, Dec. 20 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Terre Haute. WTHI-TV

- ➤ The Indiana State University board approved next year's housing and dining rates, some academic programs, and a new strategic plan on Friday. They also declared University Apartments surplus — paving the way for sale or transfer after two independent appraisals. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Olney Central College unveiled its new 8,500-sqft Health Professions Center yesterday on campus. The center offers two classrooms and simulation labs funded by the Rebuild Illinois Capital Program plus $400,000 in community support, with a total cost of $3.5 million. WTHI-TV
- ➤ Indiana State University announced the winter 2025 Hines Memorial Medal recipients - a recognition for first-time full-time freshmen graduating with the highest GPA. The award celebrates standout scholars from the local community. Tribune-Star
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Indiana American Water advises residents facing near-zero temperatures to insulate pipes with heat tape or wrap them, open cabinets for warm air, and run a trickle of water to prevent freezing. They suggest shutting off water if pipes burst and having a neighbor check on the home when away. WTHI-TV

- ➤ Vigo County Commissioners announced a five-member oversight board to guide school facility planning for the local school system. The board, made up of financial and community experts, will review budgets to support future facility projects. WTHI-TV
