- ➤ City officials will honor nine Black leaders ahead of Black History Month by placing banners downtown and featuring honorees' stories on Facebook; one honoree was chosen by Mayor Brandon Sakbun and others from a community pool. WTHI-TV
- ➤ The Salvation Army of Vigo County is running a Red Kettle Campaign and needs donations to reach its $140,000 goal by Christmas Eve; so far $65,000 have been raised despite rough weather. The funds will support the agency's food pantry, utility assistance, and year-round ministries. Tribune-Star
- ➤ On Thursday, Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank celebrated the installation of a new emergency backup generator at its warehouse facility — the installation cost about $235,000, according to assistant agency director Jennifer Thames. Tribune-Star

- ➤ Kroger customers at the Wabash Avenue store in Terre Haute now enjoy a $2M renovation with wider aisles, deli/bakery upgrades and a new sushi chef along with updated meat and seafood cases. The store celebrated the improvements with a ribbon-cutting held Thursday. Tribune-Star

- ➤ Greg King joined Rose-Hulman on Dec. 8 as the new vice president of enrollment management, reporting to President Robert A. Coons. He will lead student recruitment & financial aid & enrollment strategy as part of the college's Advancing by Design plan. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Indiana lawmakers are considering Senate Bill 78 that would require K–12 students to store their cellphones for the entire school day—this proposal was discussed in a one-hour Senate Education Committee hearing on Tuesday. Tribune-Star
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ INDOT deployed about two dozen snow plows after calling out drivers on Thursday to clear roads in an approaching winter storm with subzero temperatures, and travelers are advised to use the Traffic Wise app for updates; callouts will continue into Monday. WTHI-TV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Terre Haute native Michael Natt delivered an a capella rendition of the Star Spangled Banner before the Colts faced the Texans on Nov. 30 at Lucas Oil Stadium, where 65,977 fans watched his performance. Tribune-Star
