COMMUNITY NEWS

  • American Legion Post 340 and Plumbers & Steamfitters hosted a Coats for Kids event Tuesday, where volunteers gave out new winter coats. Zion Stephens Jr. selected a red and black Spider-man themed coat from a table of various sizes and colors.  Tribune-Star
  • Terre Haute Police caught the Grinch Monday during Operation Save Christmas where local kindergarteners submitted photos and videos to help teach lessons on kindness and forgiveness + Santa Claus appeared to thank community members.  WTHI-TV
  • Vigo County Commissioners honored former Mayor Duke Bennett with the Frances Vigo Award on Tuesday during their regular meeting to recognize his service to the community, which is the highest honor they can bestow.  Tribune-Star

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Kroger is holding a ribbon-cutting today to mark a $2 million remodel of its store at 2650 Wabash Avenue + community members are invited to explore the refreshed space.  Tribune-Star

CULTURE NEWS

  • Single women (ages 18-42) are invited to join a monthly Zoom prayer session hosted by the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods continuing in January, with sessions held on the seventh day of each month.  Tribune-Star
  • Terre Haute native Emily Clapp leads her band DEK of Hearts as NBC's 'The Voice' fans selected them as 'Mic Drop' winners to perform at the Jan. 1 Rose Parade; the trio (Dylan John and Kollin Bailey included) will showcase local pride at the event.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Parks and Recreation Board awarded Garmong Construction Services the contract to refurbish Deming Pool during a special call meeting on Tuesday afternoon. The project will begin soon to update local facilities.  Tribune-Star

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nurse practitioner Hailey Marvel has joined Union Health to serve patients at Illiana Internal Medicine North & South in Terre Haute. Marvel earned a bachelor’s from the University of Indianapolis and a master’s with Family Nurse Practitioner certification from the University of Cincinnati.  Tribune-Star
