  • Amy Schorr from Thrive West Central taught dementia care at Vigo County Public Library—earning the library the Dementia Friendly Business Certificate from Indiana University School of Public Health. The training helped staff better recognize signs of dementia and improved communication for supporting affected families.  Tribune-Star
  • Brady Hansel of Terre Haute South Rotary has delivered food baskets each Christmas Eve for several years (often with his two children). Tribune-Star kicks off a basket fund drive (to cover project costs) to support the tradition for families this holiday season.  Tribune-Star

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local owners Jeff and Kelly Ford will open a new sandwich shop called Jefe’s Five in the Public Market in 12 Points on Dec. 2—offering five classic sandwiches including a smashburger, pulled pork, chicken, pork tenderloin and hot dog as a budget-friendly option to their steakhouse.  Tribune-Star

  • Teacher Rhonda Casey at Lost Creek Elementary first noticed a kindergarten student's exceptional memory in fall 2004 and still recalls his unique retention skills 21 years later—traits that helped him become a Jeopardy champion.  Tribune-Star

HEALTH NEWS

  • Indiana submitted a 167-page application for the federal $50 billion Rural Health Transformation Program that sets out a plan to help struggling hospitals and add needed services in rural counties. The plan, called GROW: Cultivating Hoosier Health, will change primary care in 64 counties—aiming to boost health care access.  Tribune-Star
