COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Chances And Services for Youth and J. Ford’s Black Angus will host a free Thanksgiving dinner today at the Booker T. Washington Community Center—1101 South 13th Street—starting at 4:30 p.m. with food available until it runs out.  WTHI-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Award-winning journalist and author Bob Cyphers will present his book 'Dead End: Inside the Hunt for the I-70 Serial Killer' at Marshall Public Library on December 4 at 6:30 p.m. — he will share new evidence and encourage tips for the cold case investigation — in a free event for adults.  WTHI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra will perform its annual holiday concert on Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. at Tilson Auditorium on Indiana State campus. The program will feature vocalist Justin John Moniz — a three-time winner of The American Prize — and guest conductor David Bowden.  Tribune-Star
  • Terre Haute native Harrison Whitaker entered his tenth 'Jeopardy!' appearance after winning nine straight shows and earning $268,600 — his streak shows his continued success on the syndicated quiz show.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Vigo County Public Library will host blind adventurer Lonnie Bedwell — who will speak Dec. 3 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at 680 Poplar St. in Terre Haute.  Tribune-Star
  • On Monday, 1,300 sixth graders from Vigo County School Corp. and Clay Community Schools cheered at the women's basketball game between Indiana State University and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College at Hulman Center (Education Day event).  Tribune-Star
  • Indiana State University announced on Monday that the state's Commission for Higher Education approved a new bachelor's degree in sports communication— the program is a collaboration between the communication department in the College of Arts and Sciences and the sport management program in the College of Health and Human Sciences.  Tribune-Star
  • Indiana Learns offers eligible Hoosier families a grant of up to $1,000 for math and language arts tutoring to boost children's test scores; families may use the funds for in-person (online or hybrid) sessions.  WTHI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • As many prepare for Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, the Terre Haute Fire Department warns residents about grease fires and advises covering flames with a lid or sheet instead of using water—since water can worsen the fire. The department recommends keeping a fire extinguisher nearby and never leaving cooking unattended.  WTHI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Union Health Foundation awarded over 57 grants and scholarships totaling more than $900K this year to boost patient care and support families. The funds will strengthen the healthcare workforce and expand local health and safety programs—bringing lasting benefits to the community.  Tribune-Star
