COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Organizers announced that the 30th Anniversary Scheid Diesel Extravaganza will take place at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds on August 28-29, 2026—diesel fans will enjoy ODSS drag racing, Pro Pulling League competitions, the Show ’N’ Shine and Burnout Contest.  WTHI-TV
  • WTHI-TV and the U.S. Marines are partnering for the annual Toys for Tots campaign — the station is a drop-off site for new, unwrapped toys and cash donations given today at 800 Ohio Street downtown. The drive runs from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. to bring holiday cheer to Wabash Valley kids.  WTHI-TV
  • The Terre Haute Turkey Trot will take place on Thanksgiving morning with a 5-K and one-mile run starting at 9 a.m. in front of the Hulman Center – proceeds will benefit the Valley Food Pantry.  WTHI-TV
  • Duke Energy donated $33,000 to 11 local organizations that help residents facing food insecurity—Rick Burger from the Terre Haute office said the contribution supports local partnerships—intended to ease hunger. The donation reflects a community effort to tackle food insecurity.  Tribune-Star
  • On Sunday, the Pride Center in Terre Haute hosted a food drive drag show—collecting more than 700 food items to help local residents in need.  Tribune-Star

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Terre Haute Fire Department IPI Division ruled the fire at Harrison Apartments accidental after a resident evacuated safely and alerted neighbors, and police and firefighters assisted with evacuations and interior fire attack until a roof collapse forced a withdrawal—actions that helped prevent injuries.  WTHI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Terre Haute native Harrison Whitaker competed on Jeopardy! for the eighth time on Thursday night after winning $208,201 in seven games; his new challengers were writer Blythe Roberson and payroll manager Kara Brown. The 27-year-old Terre Haute North High School alumnus worked as a freelance researcher in Manchester—England and added another chapter to his impressive game show streak.  Tribune-Star

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Indiana Farm Bureau’s annual survey shows that Hoosier families will spend $53.62 on a 10-person Thanksgiving dinner — a cost that is 0.6% higher than last year and just below the national average of $55.18.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Vigo County is inviting residents to apply for a new oversight board that will help plan school facilities and raise funds for consolidation without increasing property taxes. The five-member board (one appointed by the county council, two by commissioners, one by the mayor, and one by the school board president) will serve from December 15 until April 15 while meeting twice a week with monthly updates (all meetings open to the public), and the application deadline will be December 5 at 4 p.m.  WTHI-TV
  • The Terre Haute Regional Airport has received two new tractors to replace the old ones from 1992 — the tractors will mow and plow snow and are more eco-friendly thanks to partial funding from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.  WTHI-TV
  • At the Capital Improvement Board meeting, committee member Karen Dyer introduced a plan to create the Indiana Theater Fund so the public can donate for restoring the historic theater. Repairs on the roof and ventilation are underway, and the board is checking money from the food and beverage tax—plus extra funds—to help pay for more improvements.  WTHI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Thursday afternoon, Tobacco Free Vigo hosted Cold Turkey Bowling downtown near City Hall and the Vigo County Courthouse as part of the Great American Smokeout—an event organized by the American Cancer Society to encourage smokers to quit tobacco.  Tribune-Star
  • The Annual Bleed Blue Blood Drive will be held Tuesday, December 16 from 2:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Terre Haute Convention Center in memory of Sheriff John Plasse—who died after battling cancer. Donors will receive a free Elf-themed sweatshirt and the first 40 to donate will get a limited-edition Colt's football.  WTHI-TV
