CULTURE NEWS

  • The Wabash Valley Community Foundation will create a fund to restore the Indiana Theatre after the Vigo County Capital Improvement Board approved the move yesterday at the Vigo County Annex, following a proposal by Karen Dyer of the Terre Haute Convention and Visitors Bureau. Crosley Radio Players will perform a show called "Echoes of Christmas Past" at 7 p.m. on Dec. 9 at the Convention Center to help raise money for the renovation.  Tribune-Star
  • Terre Haute native Harrison Whitaker won his seventh straight victory on Jeopardy! on Wednesday evening. He outscored challengers Josh Chen and Matylda Urbaniak with $25,601 for the night, bringing his run total to $208,201.  Tribune-Star

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Indiana Governor Mike Braun spoke during Global Entrepreneurship Week to celebrate small businesses and praised state programs that helped launch new companies and create jobs. He said improved tech policies will help Indiana grow in the coming year—boosting local entrepreneurs and the economy.  WTHI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • About 300 Hoosier National Guard members will leave next month to help the D.C. National Guard with a public safety campaign — Gov. Mike Braun approved the move after the D.C. Guard asked for support.  Tribune-Star
  • Hoosier leaders gathered Tuesday at the Statehouse to mark the 25th anniversary of the safe haven newborn surrender law — a law that lets parents safely surrender unharmed infants using baby boxes. Top state officials, including Gov. Braun, stressed ongoing efforts to support women in crisis and uphold pro-life policies.  WTHI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Union Health announced Wednesday that Dr. Andrew Bomar joined its obstetrics and gynecology team. Bomar moved from Big Rapids after he switched careers from engineering and earned his medical degree from the University of Central Florida — he now works with Union Health.  Tribune-Star
