COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Pride Center of Terre Haute will host its 'Cutting SNAP is a Drag' food drive drag show on Sunday—helping people affected by SNAP cuts and delays. Local performers and community members will share their talents and raise donations to support residents in need.  Tribune-Star

CULTURE NEWS

  • Terre Haute native Emily Clapp sang on national television Monday while local Harrison Whitaker appeared on Jeopardy! Tuesday—both performances showcasing hometown talent. The events brought pride to our community as each native shone on their respective shows.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yesterday, the Indiana Air National Guard broke ground on a new indoor small arms training range at Hulman Field near two partially raised walls. Wing commander Col. Ryan Harvey said it was a great day to be a Racer during a ceremony that also featured remarks from U.S. Representative Mark Messmer.  Tribune-Star
  • The Vigo County School Board will meet at 5 p.m. today in the administration building board room at 501 W. Olive St. — West Terre Haute to ratify a two-year contract with the Vigo County Teachers Association.  Tribune-Star
  • On Wednesday night, the Vigo County Council voted 4-3 to allocate $100K for a new oversight committee for VCSC school funding—appointment bodies from five local groups will now choose five members. Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun said he will make a slow and deliberate selection to meet community needs.  WTHI-TV
  • State officials announced on November 13th that MDwise is being removed from Indiana’s Medicaid program, leaving 300,000 people less than two months to choose a new health plan. MDwise will not offer coverage under Healthy Indiana Plan and Hoosier Healthwise—effective January 1.  Tribune-Star
  • Yesterday, the Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department announced five bids from companies seeking to refurbish the Deming Park Pool. City Planner Maitri Desai - Parks Department Board President Nathan Schaumleffel - and project manager Tommy Freeborn of Ratio opened the bid packets at the event.  Tribune-Star
  • At Indiana State University, speakers said the Big Beautiful Bill will worsen food insecurity because planned SNAP cuts are expected to reduce benefits for many Americans—retired economics professor Donald Richards warned that the changes could leave more people in need.  Tribune-Star

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Vigo County Health Department completed food inspections for Nov. 3 to Nov. 7, showing both compliant sites and dozens of violations at many local restaurants and community spots. Several businesses, including China Wok and Kasthamandap Grill, had issues with food safety standards — from improper storage to incorrect temperatures.  WTHI-TV
