  • Charlotte Zietlow, a longtime activist and community leader in Bloomington—who served on the ISU board—died at 91 on November 6. Her passing marks the loss of a revered local figure.  Tribune-Star

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Indiana Utility Regulatory Commissioners approved Duke Energy’s $3.3B plan to replace two coal-fired units at the Cayuga Generating Station with natural gas units to boost capacity by nearly 500 megawatts—rate increases will begin in early 2026 to ease costs for customers.  WTHI-TV
  • Terre Haute-based First Financial Corp. announced on Thursday it will acquire CedarStone Financial Inc. for $19.12 per share in cash, according to a joint news release.  Tribune-Star

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Prosperity Indiana, a state economic advocacy group, released its policy priorities for 2026 this week—naming affordable and habitable housing as its top concern.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Richard Carrithers watched his granddaughter Gabriella Featherstone read a poem for military veterans at Franklin Elementary during the school’s Veterans Day program Thursday—red and blue lights and patriotic decor set the stage for the event.  Tribune-Star
  • Indiana State University named Steven Susens as its new chief public relations officer—President Mike Godard said Susens brings strong international experience and proven leadership—helping to boost the school’s profile.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Indiana health officials announced nearly 50 Department of Health employees will be furloughed starting Nov. 9 if the federal shutdown that began Oct. 1 remains unresolved.  Tribune-Star

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Chad Meshberger joined Union Health, the local healthcare provider, bringing his board-certified neurologist skills to serve our community. He grew up in Lafayette and served in the Air Force on a pararescue combat search and rescue team.  Tribune-Star
  • Horizon Health will launch its free Healthy Living Series with an event called 'Thriving With Diabetes' to help people manage diabetes and prediabetes. The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at Lake Ridge Christian Church in Paris—residents can learn practical tips for living healthier.  Tribune-Star
