COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Herz-Rose Park had active work on Wednesday as workers spread fertile soil around the playground and leveled soil near the splash pad using heavy equipment. Trees were planted and future sidewalks were prepared near the basketball court — sponsored by the Indiana Pacers — as the park’s makeover nears completion.  Tribune-Star

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Vigo County Public Library will host its second annual Con at the Crossroads on November 15, and the all-ages event will feature local artists, vendors & gaming groups celebrating comics, movies, anime and games.  Tribune-Star
  • The Terre Haute Convention Center will host 'A Night in Black & White' on December 31 that will feature live music by The Big Fun Band+ an elegant buffet of chef-crafted hors d’oeuvres and desserts with a champagne toast at midnight. Guests will also have access to a full-service cash bar.  Tribune-Star

FINANCE NEWS

  • Indiana Public Retirement System is divesting almost $170 million in Hong Kong holdings after lawmakers banned Chinese investments more than two years ago — the divestment will be completed by December. The agency is updating its performance benchmarks to reflect the change — the move is in line with legislative guidelines.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of Terre Haute announced its Urban Homescape Initiative on Wednesday in a project with Thrive West Central—part of the Homes for the Future program. The effort will transform unused parcels transferred from Indiana State University into quality homes.  Tribune-Star
  • The city of Terre Haute is changing Ohio Street from 13th to 19th to make travel safer for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians—without raising traffic levels.  Tribune-Star
  • Gov. Mike Braun and Indianapolis Motor Speedway president Doug Boles attended Wednesday’s ribbon-cutting for the new Clear Creek Welcome Center off eastbound I-70 — a $54 million project that honors Indiana's auto racing history and is now open to the public.  Tribune-Star
