COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Calvary Cemetery will participate on Dec. 13 in National Wreaths Across America Day to honor veterans by placing live balsam wreaths on graves. In 2024, volunteers and veterans’ groups helped lay 249 wreaths to remember the fallen.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Vigo County School Corp. teachers ratified a new two-year contract that gives most teachers a $2,000 raise and qualifying 'lost generation' teachers $4,500 after a vote of 402 to 63 on Tuesday — the union held an information session to explain the details.  Tribune-Star
  • The Indiana Youth Institute announced Tuesday its FIVE by 50 initiative at the 2025 KIDS COUNT Conference in downtown Indianapolis to ensure every Hoosier child has at least five supportive adults by 2050. The program will link schools, after-school programs, and community organizations — a move set to boost guidance and support statewide.  WTHI-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Bobcat trapping will return to parts of Indiana this weekend for the first time in more than 50 years. Trapping will be allowed in 40 southern counties — including the Wabash Valley — with a bag limit of one bobcat per trapper and a total quota of 250 bobcats.  WTHI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of Terre Haute's annual leaf pickup program will begin Wednesday, Nov. 12, the day after Veterans Day — crews in the Orange Zone will start on Davis Avenue and work north.  Tribune-Star
  • At Tuesday's Vigo County Council meeting, officials discussed a $100K request to form an oversight committee to watch over school funds for building projects. Councilman Steve Ellis said he opposes the plan due to legal risks — he wants to protect taxpayers — while Commissioner Mark Clinkenbeard supports it to start repairs without raising taxes; a vote could come on November 11.  WTHI-TV
