- ➤ Vigo County CASA will host a Whoville donation event on Saturday, December 13 to support children in need — more than 23 trees display tags with holiday needs, and the group will seek donations of pillows, blankets, socks, and bedsheets. WTHI-TV
- ➤ Residents in Terre Town told developer Billy Southard they were upset when he bought the land for the baseball fields during an emotional meeting Monday. The foreclosed property was set for a sheriff’s sale on Oct. 16 + it had been advertised since Sept. 6. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank will run its 37th annual Share Your Thanksgiving Food and Funds Drive on November 13 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at WTHI-TV + 800 Ohio St. in Terre Haute to collect nonperishable food and funds. Tribune-Star
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Terre Haute announced its annual leaf pickup program will start November 12 — crews in the Orange Zone will begin on Davis Avenue and residents must leave leaves loose at the curbside without bags while keeping vehicles away from piles to let crews work efficiently. WTHI-TV
- ➤ Vigo County conducted food inspections from Oct. 27 to Oct. 31 to check food safety standards in local establishments – Azzip Pizza at 2499 S. St. Rd. 46 was among those inspected. Tribune-Star
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Vigo County Health Department inspected local food establishments from Oct. 27 to Oct. 31 and found that several met health standards while others—such as Taj Mahal, which had live and dead cockroaches in the kitchen—failed to comply with codes. WTHI-TV
- ➤ Union Health welcomed Dr. Fred Shield as a new internist — he is a specialist in internal medicine. He will soon join the hospital team to help care for patients. Tribune-Star
