COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A ribbon-cutting officially opened the Griffin Bike Park Headquarters on Friday, October 17 — officials including Vigo County Parks and Recreation Superintendent Adam Grossman, Health Department Administrator Joni Wise, Commissioner Mike Morris, Griffin Bike Park Manager Rich Moore, and founder Gene Griffin marked the event.  Tribune-Star
  • The Scouts of America will hold a fundraiser on November 20 at the Terre Haute First Baptist Church starting at 6 p.m.—the event will raise money to help cover scouting costs and honor Eagle Scouts Jim Stolt and Frank Mitchell for their service.  WTHI-TV
  • The Salvation Army of Vigo County is preparing for the busy holiday season by opening Christmas assistance applications for residents in need through the end of November.  Tribune-Star

CULTURE NEWS

  • A book fair will occur Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Meadows Shopping Center—sponsored by Crawford Creek Books and the Meadows Cafe—where local authors and vendors will display their work.  Tribune-Star
  • The Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra will perform Rach's Third featuring pianist Fei-Fei at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at Tilson Auditorium—the concert opens with Valerie Coleman’s Seven O’Clock Shout and concludes with Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 9 that highlights the orchestra's skill.  Tribune-Star
  • Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's Drama Club will present its fall musical 'Little Shop of Horrors'—set for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Hatfield Hall Theater. The show follows Seymour Krelborn as he encounters a carnivorous plant that promises fame at a dangerous cost.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana asked the federal government for a waiver to combine more than 15 education programs into one block grant—this plan will reduce paperwork and let schools focus on teaching. If approved, the change will start in the 2026-27 school year—helping to align state accountability with federal rules.  WTHI-TV
  • News 10 interviewed Chou-Il Lee of Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP to clarify questions about a proposed oversight board for the Vigo County School Corporation’s long-term consolidation and construction projects. Lee said the board cannot obligate or spend funds without a county council transfer — a rule aimed at transparency — and he encouraged residents to review the statute closely.  WTHI-TV
  • Lincoln Trail College is holding a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Career and Technical Training Center on the Robinson campus today— the $13.4 million building will house welding, process technology and broadband telecommunications programs. Site preparation began in August and construction will finish in 18 months.  WTHI-TV
  • Indiana State University will stop using University Apartments for student housing with the 2026-27 academic year — instead, it will reopen Hines and Jones halls on campus and offer other options for upper-class and graduate students.  Tribune-Star

  • The Nevins Covered Bridge is closed because its southwest arch failed—repair work will begin soon to replace the interior support and restore safety.  WTHI-TV
