  • The Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department will host its Annual Un-Haunted Halloween Happenings at Deming Park on Oct. 17 and Oct. 18 from 6 to 9 p.m.—offering families train and wagon rides for 4 dollars, free spooky story time hosted by the Vigo County Public Library, games, face painting and pumpkin painting.  Tribune-Star

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Anna's Hands, a popular Terre Haute food truck, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony as it opened its permanent location on Wabash Avenue — the new spot serves shrimp and grits plus catfish and operates Monday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.  WTHI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tim Wright with Steel Petals will perform at the Boot City Opry on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. The Indianapolis band is known for captivating harmonies + heartfelt lyrics and will deliver an engaging show for fans.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Indiana State University Board of Trustees approved a new Early Childhood Education program for Pre-K to Grade 3 on Friday in Tirey Hall. The program—designed to help teachers care for children from birth through age 8—will launch in fall 2026 pending final approval from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.  Tribune-Star

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Indiana conservation officers urge deer hunters to stay safe during archery season by checking their equipment and telling someone where they are — advice that helps avoid injuries in tree stands and ensures shooters know their target and what is beyond. More than 300000 hunters are expected to join the season that runs until January 31 — a reminder that safety must be a top priority.  WTHI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Vigo County commissioners declared a burn ban because dry conditions led them to act — the ban went into effect at 8 p.m. Friday and will continue until noon Oct. 17.  Tribune-Star
  • The Indiana Department of Transportation is asking local residents to share feedback on its two-year study to improve safety on U.S. 41. INDOT will host public sessions on October 22 at the Vigo County Library and Ivy Tech and plans to finish the study by 2027.  WTHI-TV

  • Two teams won a three-peat at Indiana State University's 62nd annual trike race on campus Friday + the event was part of the school’s Homecoming activities.  Tribune-Star
