COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Terre Haute residents in Vigo County are invited to join the Fall City-Wide Cleanup on October 25 from 8 a.m. until noon or until dumpsters reach capacity—participants must show proof of residency at City Hall on Harding Avenue, Woodrow Wilson Middle School, or the Street Department Garage on Deming.  WTHI-TV
  • Terre Haute is holding a city-wide fall cleanup on Saturday, October 11th from 8 a.m. to noon at three drop off locations. Dumpsters will be available only at City Hall (17 Harding Ave.) and Woodrow Wilson Middle School (301 S. 25th St.).  Tribune-Star
  • The Ivy Tech Terre Haute Student Government Association will host its second annual trunk-or-treat on Oct. 29 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Ivy Tech parking lot—guests will enjoy a costume contest, trunk decorating contest, popcorn, hot chocolate, yard games and free family pictures.  Tribune-Star
  • Terre Haute Police and local businesses are preparing for a busy ISU homecoming weekend as students will walk from campus to Memorial Stadium with bars like The Saratoga offering drink specials. Lt. Justin Sears said extra patrols will secure the event—participants are urged to drink responsibly and travel in groups to avoid arrests for drunk driving.  WTHI-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The West Central Indiana Small Business Development Center will hold its third annual Brand. Market. Expand. Marketing Conference—Small Business Edition on Nov. 21 at Indiana State University from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will focus on AI-powered tools and proven marketing strategies to help small businesses save time, simplify marketing and grow their reach.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Indiana State University, Taylor Pesavento painted the Century 21 Elite office window in a blue and white checkerboard pattern on Tuesday to mark upcoming homecoming celebrations this week. The university will hold additional events as it shows school spirit.  Tribune-Star
  • Indiana colleges and universities did not receive new state incentive dollars this biennium—officials said progress on key student success goals for low-income students is continuing.  Tribune-Star
  • Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is receiving a $126,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to fund mentorship programs linking graduate, Ph.D. students with undergraduates in STEM; its engineering program will be the first to benefit.  WTHI-TV
  • Customers at Terre Haute's McDonald's helped raise $5,000 for the Vigo County Education Foundation from parts of every order on September 23. The owners of six local restaurants presented the check on Monday morning—this marks the third year of their partnership that has raised over $13,000 to support local schools.  WTHI-TV
  • Indiana colleges and universities did not receive new state incentive dollars for meeting performance goals this biennium and the operating prospective funding was left unfunded. However, education officials said they will continue tracking metrics - especially for low-income students - so campuses know where to improve.  WTHI-TV
