  • Leslie Mikolajczyk, the Tribune-Star audience development manager, was promoted to general manager and will continue her current duties—working closely with publisher Beverly Joyce to manage the newspaper.  Tribune-Star

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mark Bennett, the incoming director of Swope Art Museum, said art teaches lifelong lessons as he recalled a school field trip where Woodrow Wilson Middle School students, including Anthony Dinkel, learned about Grant Wood's 1941 painting Spring in Town from teacher Linda Hill—showing how early art exposure can shape understanding.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Last year, fifth-grader Charlee Steiner received a PTO grant to turn her Candy Land idea into Prairie Land at Hoosier Prairie Elementary—her brother Carson Steiner and school staff demonstrated the game on Wednesday while the outdoor launch is set to happen soon.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Terre Haute Fire Department Chief Darrick Scott thanked the city for providing a new fourth ambulance on Wednesday and noted that another city ambulance sped by station 9 with its siren on—showing the EMS fleet still needs more vehicles.  Tribune-Star
  • The Indiana Department of Transportation is accepting fiscal year 2026 applications for its Community Crossings Matching Grant program — offered to cities, towns and counties — which will take proposals until 5 p.m. Oct. 31. Updated guidelines were issued following the 2025 legislative session.  Tribune-Star

HEALTH NEWS

  • Five local agencies addressing mental health, substance abuse and homelessness received over $400,000 in grants on Oct 1 as the Wabash Valley Community Foundation distributed funds through its Creating a Better Tomorrow initiative—benefiting groups in Clay, Sullivan and Vigo counties.  Tribune-Star
