EDUCATION NEWS

  • Vigo County Schools are asking for a $3.92M grant to buy 14 electric buses to replace diesel buses—plans include seven dual-plug charging stations at the bus garage. The project will lower fuel and maintenance costs if the funding is approved.  WTHI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • INDOT held a public forum Tuesday along the U.S. 41 corridor in Vigo County to gather feedback on a dangerous median crossover — local residents Judy and Roy Williams attended, with Roy recalling a T-bone accident 22 years ago near a KFC that has spurred calls for safer road conditions.  Tribune-Star
  • City officials and reps from Thrive West Central, Terre Haute Transit, Bicycle Indiana and Rose-Hulman attended a symposium at Hungarian Hall Tuesday—where they discussed Vision Zero’s aim to end fatal and injury crashes on Hoosier roadways. Each community will set its own timeline to reach that goal.  Tribune-Star
  • S&P Global Ratings warns that Indiana’s new property tax law creates uncertainty for bonds—local credit ratings may fall when tax revenues drop in 2028. Lawmakers are set to review and adjust the law to protect city and county services.  WTHI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Union Health launched its FoodLocker Program today to help patients dealing with food insecurity — the 16-door system distributes emergency food bags when patients leave the hospital. A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the opening.  WTHI-TV
  • Terre Haute police and fire departments are competing in the Battle of the Badges Blood Drive at the Terre Haute Casino Resort — eligible donors must be at least 21 and can donate until 6 p.m. today. The drive will resume from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow — the event aims to save lives with help from the American Red Cross.  WTHI-TV
