- ➤ Terre Haute Police and Fire Departments will take part in a friendly blood drive competition called Battle-of-the-Badges next Tuesday and Wednesday at the Sycamore Event Center Room on 4500 Margaret Dr located at the Terre Haute Resort Casino. The public is invited to donate blood from Sept 22 to Oct 19 to support local hospitals and earn a $10 Amazon gift card with donors required to be 21 or older. Tribune-Star
- ➤ CASA’s Trunk or Treat event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Vigo County Annex north parking lot & it will offer free hot dogs, popcorn, and drinks while supplies last. Tribune-Star

- ➤ The Nashville trio led by Terre Haute native Emily Clapp—now appearing on NBC's The Voice—chose Irish singer Niall Horan as its coach on Monday night's season premiere. The decision marks a key moment as the group launches into Season 28. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Three Tribune-Star staffers won first-place honors at the annual Hoosier State Press Association awards luncheon in Indianapolis on September 23 — with columnist Mark Bennett receiving the award for Best General Commentary. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Richard Goodall, Terre Haute's celebrated singing janitor, is returning to America's Got Talent for the season finale today — his AGT post confirmed his performance. Tribune-Star
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ All six McDonald's in Terre Haute are raising money today to support the Vigo County Education Foundation, which funds local public schools. The fundraiser — run by Nick and Jami Kasprzyk — is in its third year after having raised more than $8,000 to help over 12,000 students and 1,000 teachers at 23 schools. WTHI-TV
- ➤ Rose-Hulman was named the nation's top college for undergraduate engineering education for the 27th straight year in the 2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Guide — the ranking is based on a survey of engineering deans and senior faculty nationwide. Tribune-Star
- ➤ On Tuesday, Duke Energy held its 26th wetlands program at Cayuga Generating Station where North Vermillion Jr. High School eighth graders held fish from the Wabash River and learned about silver carp, buffalo fish, blue suckers, and shovel nosed sturgeon. A retired engineer and a Purdue Extension specialist led hands-on lessons—explaining river ecology and demonstrating piezoelectric technology. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita sent a six-page memo Monday night to school leaders saying that schools are wrong for not disciplining or firing teachers who made comments about Charlie Kirk's death—he said many educators wrongly cite the First Amendment to avoid necessary actions. - ➤ Governor Braun held a news conference Tuesday morning to announce new appointments for the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission and plans to balance utility industry needs with ratepayer concerns. He nominated three individuals to the committee that will select new commissioners and highlighted Abby Gray’s advice to lower a planned rate increase from AES—efforts that residents say aim to ease their utility costs. - ➤ Commissioner Chris Switzer said the Vigo County burn ban—imposed last Thursday due to dry vegetation and brush—will expire Thursday at noon as recent rain is easing the dry conditions. Tribune-Star
