  • Rail Safety Week runs from Sept. 14 to Sept. 20 to remind residents that rail crossings needn't be deadly if proper caution is taken—local messages stress slowing down and staying alert at tracks.  Tribune-Star
  • The Vigo County Family Recovery Court is hosting its second annual Resource Fair on Thursday at 33 S. 3rd St.—community members will meet local service providers and learn about recovery programs, with representatives available from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Mike Braun said Monday on Fort Wayne’s WOWO-FM 92.3 that lawmakers might meet for a special session in November to redraw congressional boundaries—his clearest signal in support of mid-cycle redistricting. He urged Hoosier legislative leaders to guide the process.  Tribune-Star
  • The Terre Haute City Council will hold a public hearing Friday to review the 2026 sanitary budget—residents may attend to share input on the plan.  Tribune-Star
  • The Indiana Department of Transportation will host a hiring fair in Terre Haute on September 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 5693 East Sony Drive—job seekers can interview for winter seasonal positions including on-call snowplow roles paying $25 per hour and requiring a valid CDL.  WTHI-TV
  • On Tuesday, first responders in Terre Haute attended a rail safety demonstration organized by Indiana Railroad and local law enforcement to learn about heavy trains' long stopping distances and the need to obey crossing signals—officials stressed public safety was key.  WTHI-TV
