- ➤ Firefighters Fighting Hunger launches a food drive on Saturday collecting donations at 30 Kroger stores and a few fire stations across Indiana from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—the drive aims to help struggling Hoosiers put food on the table. Tribune-Star
- ➤ On Thursday, several Terre Haute firefighters climbed 110 flights of stairs at the Terre Haute Casino Resort to honor those who died during Sept. 11, 2001. The memorial event was held for a second year, with some firefighters wearing heavy gear—adding up to 75 pounds—to mark their tribute. Tribune-Star

- ➤ On Wednesday, 350 people gathered on the banks of the Wabash for RiverScape’s 5th Annual Moonlight on the Wabash dinner to honor Fred Nation and John Watson—Nation received the Reliance Award for his decade of leadership that transformed the riverfront through projects like the Riverfront Lofts. - ➤ Indiana State University is under investigation while officials say there is no threat on campus and in the community. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Indiana State University students and staff assembled 200 hygiene kits on Sept. 11 for the National Day of Service to honor victims of the terror attacks—kits will be provided to local groups supporting veterans and those in need. WTHI-TV
- ➤ New state data shows that fewer students are missing school but almost one in six still miss 10 or more days. The chronic absenteeism rate dropped to 16.7% in the 2024-25 year—its third straight improvement—yet remains higher than before the pandemic. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Indiana State University announced that freshman Kaylynn Lucas died while visiting home over the weekend (she was studying Automotive Engineering Technology and lived in Blumberg Hall), and the university is now providing support services. WTHI-TV

- ➤ Traffic flows again at the 13th Street—Wabash Avenue intersection after months of construction near downtown Terre Haute, though city and INDOT crews are still finishing work on the traffic signal. Drivers are urged to proceed with caution in the area. WTHI-TV
- ➤ At Thursday night's city council meeting, Mayor Brandon Sakbun used General Ordinance 12—originally meant to be withdrawn—as a tool to start a discussion on homelessness. Fourteen citizens spoke for over two hours about the need to fix the system for those sleeping in public areas. Tribune-Star

- ➤ The Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods and Thrive West Central will host a dementia education series in October. - ➤ Dr. Peter Duong, who has led Indiana University School of Medicine Terre Haute for 17 years, will retire Dec. 31 — many former students credit his guidance, with Dr. Abby Karius saying he inspired her to pursue medicine. Tribune-Star
