- ➤ Teenagers aged 12 through 18 are invited by the Sisters of Providence to volunteer with health care residents at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods on Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. They will help with activities (bingo, exercise, baking, and events). Tribune-Star
- ➤ Lock 47 Park in Riley opened on September 6 after years of work—officials said they will extend trails to connect the park with Terre Haute, Rea Park, and Fairbanks Park. Officials said future plans will form one of the longest trail networks in Vigo County. WTHI-TV
- ➤ Terre Haute’s First Hungarian Working Men’s Benefit and Death Society will offer its Hungarian cabbage rolls as a drive-through dinner event on Oct. 4 at Hungarian Hall at 2049 N. 22nd Street. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Today, a ribbon cutting in Rosedale marked the completion of phase one for the Parke Community Rail Trail, a 2.6-mile track from Big Raccoon Creek to the Vigo County line that features a repurposed railcar bridge. The project took over ten years to plan—supported by a five-million-dollar grant from Indiana’s Next Level Trails program—and will eventually connect Rockville Depot to the Vigo County line. WTHI-TV

- ➤ Small business owners and entrepreneurs in Terre Haute are invited to attend a free, hands-on QuickBooks and Bookkeeping Essentials Workshop on Sep. 16 and 17. - ➤ Between Tuesday and Thursday, about 1,000 fifth graders will visit the fairgrounds to learn about agriculture — alpacas will be a focus during lessons organized by the Vigo County Soil and Water Conservation District. Tribune-Star

Mike Braun's administration asked the Attorney General’s Office for a legal opinion on keeping the program that helps minority and women-owned businesses join state procurement+ the review will determine if the Minority and Women’s Business Enterprises Program is continued or eliminated. - ➤ At Tuesday’s Vigo County Council meeting, county agencies and officials requested funds to fight substance abuse among children as Judge Lakshmi Reddy argued against cuts to her family law programs for child custody in the proposed 2026 budget. The meeting focused on how best to reallocate resources to better protect vulnerable children—highlighting ongoing concerns about substance abuse. Tribune-Star
