CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Indiana Bat Festival marks its 20th year and will host educational and family-friendly programs by Indiana State University’s Center for Bat Research, Outreach, and Conservation on Sept. 27. Programs run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Science Building next to Dede Plaza fountain — from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Dobbs Park. Tribune-Star
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The West Central Indiana Aviation Academy launched its program on August 14 to let about 15 local high school students learn about aviation careers—from air traffic control to airplane mechanics. The academy offers dual credit and plans to add about five more students to reach full capacity—expanding opportunities for teens in the field. WTHI-TV
- ➤ Ava Ingram, a junior at Terre Haute North, has been selected to join the national FFA Chorus and will perform on stage at the National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis from Oct. 29—Nov. 1. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Ivy Tech Terre Haute will host a Sweet Corn Harvesting event on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 1200 E. Davis Drive—attendees may donate cash to receive a bag of fresh sweet corn that supports agriculture. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Vigo County Public Library will host its 31st annual Family Learning Day on Sept. 27 to share learning resources and interactive activities with local families. Returning vendors such as Foam Homies, Touch-a-Truck and the alpacas from the White Violet Center for Eco-Justice will bring engaging experiences to the event — offering families new ways to learn together. - ➤ The Vigo County School Board approved advertising of a proposed 2026 overall budget of over $180 million Monday—this decision starts the process for further review by local education officials. Tribune-Star
- ➤ On Friday, Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith faced backlash from supporters after posting on social media about Haitian asylum-seekers.
