BUSINESS NEWS

  • Project leaders behind the new TownePlace Suites by Marriott were honored on Thursday at the Convention and Visitors Bureau—construction has already begun on the four-story, 96-room extended-stay hotel along Interstate 70 and U.S. 41, which will push the city's total hotel rooms above 2,000.  Tribune-Star

  • The Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra is beginning its 100th season, marking it as Indiana's longest-running symphony with new music director Roger Kalia set to lead its first concert. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Indiana child care providers will face reimbursement cuts of 10-35% starting Oct. 5 as the state works to close a $225 million funding gap, the Family and Social Services Administration said. The lower rates for infant, preschool, and school-age care may force some providers to leave the low-income voucher program (which currently supports 55,000 children).  WTHI-TV
  • At last Thursday's City Council meeting, the City Code was amended three times so that two changes to childcare rules will let more children receive care. City Engineer Marcus Maurer said the amendments will also create a new zoning — C-1R that limits commercial use to childcare centers.  Tribune-Star
  • Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun released a proposed $129M budget for 2026 that boosts public safety, infrastructure improvements and blight elimination while avoiding new debt—he emphasized that cost-cutting measures and conserved gaming revenue support this efficient plan, which now goes to City Council for review.  WTHI-TV
