COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Two local families will move into new homes today because Habitat for Humanity built them in Terre Haute. This is the fourth and fifth house built this year — with First Financial Bank donating $100,000 over five years and veteran builder Joe Hoopingarner helping — to support the families.  WTHI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Native Hautean Mark Bennett said his most heartbreaking Katrina memory was all of it—he recalled when Debbie Weaver drove across the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway into New Orleans and the sights looked surreal after the storm.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ainsley Coffey from Mesa, Arizona moved into Rose-Hulman’s new freshman residence hall on Friday with about 500 incoming students—her dad graduated from Purdue while her mom earned a degree at Rose-Hulman. She started her college career following in her mom’s footsteps.  Tribune-Star
  • Construction on Innovation Grove at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is underway after record-breaking fundraising and is planned to offer new hands-on and experimental learning opportunities. The project includes a future partnership with Union Health for biomedical engineering—enhancing the campus learning experience.  WTHI-TV
  • The Indiana State University bookstore, operated by Barnes & Noble, will move back to a central campus location from its current downtown building at Fifth and Cherry Streets. University officials say the shift will help bring campus services closer to students & staff.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Indiana State Police will urge drivers to prioritize safety as Labor Day weekend approaches after traffic deaths have occurred annually. Officer Matt Ames will advise motorists to prepare vehicles by checking tires and windshield wipers and will warn against impaired driving while recommending the INDOT TrafficWise app for updates.  WTHI-TV
