COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wabash Valley Habitat for Humanity presented keys to two new three-bedroom, two-bath homes on Wednesday for families in Terre Haute—Olympia Turner and Ansyee Shelton received their new home as part of the organization’s third and fourth builds in 2025.  Tribune-Star

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Indiana State Police responded to an oil spill at the eastbound ramp of U.S. 41 to I-70 at the seven-mile marker—emergency crews are working to clean it up while the ramp remains closed.  Tribune-Star

CRIME NEWS

  • Sullivan County deputies arrested two Merom women on Monday after stopping a car on State Road 63 just north of Merom—K9 Qlark detected illegal drugs and officers recovered meth, marijuana, scales, pills and cash with Pierce facing serious charges and a bond of $72,000 while Shepler faces charges with a $34,000 bond.  WTHI-TV
  • The Indiana Supreme Court confirmed an Oct. 10 execution date for death row inmate Roy Lee Ward after it denied his appeal on Wednesday—his scheduled execution will proceed as legal steps end.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Terre Haute has begun renovating Coy Park to give kids new play equipment, thanks to generous donations, Mayor Brandon Sakbun said. He added that more upgrades, including improvements at Rea Park and around Memorial Stadium, are planned for the future—boosting outdoor activity in the community.  WTHI-TV
  • The Terre Haute Police Department and Vigo County Crisis Intervention Team met with National Alliance for Mental Illness Indiana at Hamilton Center on Thursday to develop strategies for helping adults with mental and substance issues in the justice system—work that will continue until noon Friday.  Tribune-Star
  • Some Seelyville customers were charged twice in July because a duplicate meter read file for June and July was used; the city fixed the error on the August 24 bill—customers with late fees can contact the billing office while an official reaches out to Seelyville Water for a prevention plan.  WTHI-TV

  • James Lewis, a Terre Haute resident, has lived with the rare genetic disease Gordon Holmes Syndrome that affects his muscles, memory and movement since his diagnosis over three years ago—and his family is raising awareness and launching a GoFundMe to help fund a needed vehicle lift.  WTHI-TV
