COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Providence Food Pantry is holding the Hunger Bust Fun Run/Walk on Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. on the grounds of the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College—all proceeds will benefit the food pantry.  Tribune-Star

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Rosedale resident died in a single-vehicle accident near 5783 West County Road 800 South just after midnight Wednesday + the Parke County Sheriff's Department confirmed the incident.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana State University students have returned to Terre Haute and police urge them to use available safety resources—Blue Light phones, the 24/7 campus escort, and the Rave Guardian app—to stay safe at campus events.  WTHI-TV
  • United Way Wabash Valley will host its annual Power of the Purse fundraiser on Wednesday, September 10 at 11 a.m. at the Hulman Center on the ISU campus—attendees will enjoy lunch and take part in raffles and auctions while proceeds support early learning and literacy programs including the Imagination Library.  WTHI-TV
  • At Franklin Elementary, students shared their plans for the year-end talent show while media specialist Amber Wigington explained that a mini-grant (from the Vigo County Education Foundation) is funding a project where they create clay art based on Caldecott Medal books. The funding supports creative opportunities on the first day of school.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Terre Haute City Council’s five-member Planning, Zoning and Improvements Committee voted Wednesday evening to recommend withdrawing an ordinance that would change the City Code to set up a Historic Preservation Districts commission — the two-hour meeting saw 19 residents offering public comment.  Tribune-Star
  • On Wednesday night, a Terre Haute city council subcommittee voted against a proposed ordinance that would create a Historical Oversight Committee to review changes to old homes—Councilwoman Tammy Bolan said the move lets them study public comments and work on a clearer rule later.  WTHI-TV
