- ➤ Two local family farms in the Wabash Valley were among 103 recipients of the Hoosier Homestead awards on Aug. 13—recognizing the commitment of 95 Indiana families to agriculture. Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith and Indiana State Department of Agriculture Director Don Lamb presented the awards at the Indiana State Fair. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Homes for Children in Vigo County is reactivating its group home to support homeless and neglected kids. The facility will offer eight beds after the County Council approved $76,000 for improvements and $48,000 for start-up costs—reopening is planned around October 1. WTHI-TV

- ➤ Terre Haute firefighters responded to a commercial structure fire at 935 N. 10th St. at 5:48 p.m. Thursday—Capt. Nick Arnold said heavy smoke and flames were observed upon arrival. Tribune-Star
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Mike Braun — known for his focus on education — announced on August 14 the appointment of three new trustees to Indiana State University who will soon help shape university policy. Tribune-Star
- ➤ The Indiana Black Legislative Caucus will host a town hall meeting at City Hall Courtroom, 17 Harding Ave., on Aug. 23 from noon—2 p.m. Sylvester Edwards from the local NAACP will moderate the event and invite community members to ask questions and share concerns. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Terre Haute Regional Airport plans to replace its 1992 tractors with fuel-efficient models using a $166,000 grant from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and matching funds from Vigo County Council’s rainy-day fund to be requested in September - the upgrade is expected to shorten mower hours and free up staff for other maintenance work. - ➤ Vigo County will add cameras to its snow plow trucks this winter — the new tracking system lets residents view plow routes on the county website and helps schools decide on closures or delays. County commissioners are partnering with a company to install these systems. WTHI-TV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Greene County Health Department will offer its free 18-week Food as Medicine program at Linton-Stockton High School—starting Saturday, August 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.—to help people with chronic illnesses eat healthier. Participants will attend live cooking demonstrations and receive healthy food boxes—filled with produce from local vendors—and undergo A1C and biometric screenings. WTHI-TV
