COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Terre Haute’s First Hungarian Working Men’s Benefit and Death Society will continue its summer rummage sale Friday and Saturday at Hungarian Hall—2049 N. 22nd St, where doors will open at 8 a.m. and close at noon; items include toys, tools, TVs, fishing gear, clothes, books, puzzles, DVDs and four collectible Colts footballs.  Tribune-Star
  • First responders hosted a rally at Fairbanks Park on Wednesday evening and local residents met officers and enjoyed treats, even though temperatures rose above 90 (challenging some attendees).  Tribune-Star

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Sisters of Providence will host Rest and Reflect: An Eco-Spiritual Retreat with Nature from 9 a.m. Sept. 26 until 3 p.m. Sept. 28 at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods to offer a peaceful weekend of reflection.  Tribune-Star

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Spearhead Construction began work last week on a new 96-room TownePlace Suites by Marriott near I-70 and U.S. 41 in Terre Haute. The four-story hotel will take 14 months to build in a project led by developer Nick Patel with Transcend Group, LLC to serve visiting families, business travelers, and event guests.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bryson Pezan, a Terre Haute South Vigo High School senior, attended a ribbon cutting for the West Central Indiana Aviation Academy at Terre Haute Regional Airport & the renovated third floor of a facility was shown at the event on Wednesday. The new program will help him learn hands-on skills for a career in aviation maintenance & prepare him for further technical training.  Tribune-Star
  • Indiana Governor Mike Braun visited Century Career Center on Wednesday afternoon and spent nearly an hour touring the facility and meeting with Logansport Community School Corporation administrators and city officials to discuss student preparation. His visit came on the first day of school, marking a notable effort to boost local education initiatives.  Tribune-Star

  • The city of Terre Haute announced Deming Park Pool will close for the summer season on Sunday (renovations to the pool and bath house will begin immediately).  Tribune-Star
