- ➤ Off-duty firefighter Nathan Huyck was in his backyard just south of Terre Haute early Sunday evening when he answered a neighbor's call and helped a granddaughter deliver a baby; both mother and child did well. Tribune-Star
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Rose-Hulman launched a redesigned computer science major that offers specializations in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data science—options that prepare students for careers in emerging tech fields. Tribune-Star
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Indiana Gov. Mike Braun announced that the state police, Department of Homeland Security and Department of Correction signed agreements to gain federal immigration enforcement powers with ICE, pending its approval. The Department of Correction plans to free up 1,000 beds at Miami Correctional Facility—selected officers will receive ICE training and be nominated once the deals are approved. WTHI-TV
- ➤ The Vigo County Council’s budget committee met Monday with county departments as they submitted proposals for the 2026 budget under the leadership of Councilman Brad Anderson and colleagues Vicky Weger and Steve Ellis. The committee will continue meeting through Wednesday—reviewing the proposals amid expected state and federal budget cuts. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Indiana University trustees delayed their vote on a new code of conduct after Trustee Jim Bopp raised concerns during a June 12 meeting, and the board will revisit the proposal in September. A flood warning is in effect in west central Indiana including Clay and Vigo until 7:45 p.m. as heavy rain has led to 1.5 to 3.5 inches of rainfall with more expected. Tribune-Star

- ➤ The Wabash Valley Recovery Alliance will host a panel discussion on harm reduction at the downtown Vigo Center Public Library on Aug. 14 from 5:30 p.m.—7:30 p.m. Medical and mental health experts will share methods to help prevent self-harm. Tribune-Star
