  • Hamilton Center will hold its annual 'We Live' Back-to-School Bash from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Spencer Park, 1461 Eighth Ave.—The free event offers school supplies, giveaways and haircuts to help local families get ready for the new school year.  Tribune-Star

  • Terre Haute Casino Resort will host a job fair on Aug. 6 from 2 to 6 p.m. in its Event Center — management is seeking cooks, stewards, servers, a hostess, housekeepers, and security officers.  Tribune-Star

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Duke Energy is offering energy-saving advice to help residents lower their electric bills during Indiana’s triple-digit summer heat. The tips include raising thermostat settings, washing clothes with cooler water, closing curtains, and setting ceiling fans to rotate counterclockwise — all to reduce energy use.  WTWO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Jul 29, the city of Terre Haute added three new electric vehicles to its fleet using a DOE grant valued over $123,000 + officials noted that the new vehicles will lower yearly gas expenses for the engineering department. City officials said the vehicles will be sold or repurposed for other departments.  WTHI-TV
  • Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun said the RESIDE Act will let the city use federal HOME funds starting in 2026 to repurpose abandoned buildings into new housing options. The bipartisan bill, introduced by Senator Jim Banks, is seen as a chance to revitalize the city—supporting both single family and multifamily housing without additional spending.  WTWO
  • Drivers in Sullivan County face detours as State Road 48 near Shelburn is closed for a bridge replacement project over Kettle Creek — the closure stretches from North Washington Avenue to North County Road 125 East. Work on the project will continue through early November — local traffic may use the road up to the closure point.  WTHI-TV
