Purdue Extension is hosting a Stock the Trailer food drive at the fairs to collect nonperishable items for local food pantries.

At the Vigo County Fair, held yesterday and today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., donations went to the Providence Food Pantry while donations at today's Sullivan County Fair go to the St. Mary Catholic Church food pantry—donors who give at least 10 canned goods or $10 receive a complimentary state fair ticket.

Patti Farnsworth received an award for best teamwork after her scent detection dog Opie helped reunite Evan Loudermilk’s missing dog Sterling, who was found on a creek sandbar in Terre Haute.

Farnsworth urges pet owners to call a search dog service quickly and will travel to New York later this month with her dog Opal for special training with a national rescue organization.

Vigo County Sheriff Derek Fell identified brother and sister—59-year-old Keith Russell Chaney and 63-year-old Kathy Ann Cunning—as victims in a northern Vigo County death investigation, noting the case is a murder/suicide where Chaney shot his sister before taking his own life on Wednesday evening on Shabur Avenue near North Terre Haute.

Ivy Tech and Saturn Petcare welcomed four new members to their Industrial Technology Apprenticeship program and celebrated the first two completers at the Ivy Tech Center for Workforce Development in southern Vigo County.

The three-year program gives apprentices hands-on work at Saturn Petcare while they attend Ivy Tech to earn an associate’s degree with no tuition cost—ensuring a full-time position upon completion.

Gov. Mike Braun’s executive order removed over 350 DEI programs—such as grants, scholarships and training—from state agencies and replaced them with a focus on merit, excellence and innovation.

Critics warn that eliminating these initiatives may harm health, education and minority communities by reducing support in key policy areas.
