- ➤ The Vigo County Fair offers carnival rides, games, and 4-H projects for families while fair food is available and events run through Saturday. The demolition derby—tonight at 7 p.m.—is a crowd favorite and a main highlight of the fair. WTHI-TV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Terre Haute Police Department juvenile detectives investigated several fights among youths, including one at Fairbanks Park, and after social media videos surfaced, obtained six battery warrants—four were served while officers continue searching for two runaways and have made curfew and underage drinking arrests downtown, urging parents to supervise their children. - ➤ A Parke County deputy was told by an Indiana Conservation Officer at 6:36 p.m. Saturday that a vehicle speeding from Raccoon Lake Park nearly hit Bellmore Fire Department cadets before the driver—40-year-old William E. Ditchley Jr.—lost control on U.S. Highway 36, crashed, and is now charged with driving while intoxicated, resisting the law, and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon while held on a $10,000 bond. - ➤ Terre Haute police warned of a rise in car thefts after noting a car is stolen every 37 seconds in the country—Lt. Justin Sears urged residents to park in well-lit areas, lock doors and windows, and keep valuables out of sight. WTHI-TV

- ➤ The Terre Haute Children’s Museum is hosting a bubble party on July 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.—the event features multiple bubble stations and outdoor play for families and is included with admission or free for members. WTWO
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Three Terre Haute high school students—Brianna Higginbotham, Katin Keith and Kyleigh Moore—were awarded the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, which offers up to $10,000 a year for four years if they teach in an eligible Indiana school. Nearly 300 students were selected this year from 1,091 applicants under a program established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2016. WTWO

- ➤ Governor Mike Braun appointed Brian Schutt as director of the new Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation yesterday. The Indianapolis business owner and co-founder of Refinery46 will lead state programs to support Main Street businesses—focusing on startups, certified technology parks, and initiatives to aid rural and underrepresented communities.
