COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cyclists will begin the 24th annual Cops Cycling for Survivors ride on July 7 at 8:00 a.m. at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield, starting a 13-day 1,000-mile journey across Indiana to honor four fallen officers. They will finish the event on July 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis + the ride pays tribute to the families of the deceased.  WTHI-TV
  • The United Way's Serve the Valley event will take place Friday, July 25 and needs about 500 volunteers to join 30 projects—cleaning parks, helping non-profits and building ramps at local homes.  WTHI-TV
  • County fairs in the Wabash Valley offer rides, games, and food from July 5 to August 10. Fairs in Indiana and Illinois—like Vigo and Lawrence on July 5-12—invite families to enjoy local traditions.  WTWO
  • Thousands of yellow rubber ducks raced at Fairbanks Park Friday evening in the 8th Annual Wabash Valley Rubber Duck Regatta, where participants purchased ducks for a chance at winning $10,000 plus $1,000,000 if their duck finished to support Terre Haute Catholic Charities programs. CRIME NEWS

  • Timothy Kiefner, aged 46 and wanted for vehicular homicide and other charges in Tennessee, was arrested without incident Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in eastern Vigo County—he now awaits transfer to Dickson County.  WTWO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ivy Tech Community College in Terre Haute received the Collegiate Purple Star of Indiana designation for its strong support of military students under a three-year award program established by Senate Enrolled Act 384 — the campus was recognized in tier two based on 37 standards set by the Indiana Commission for Higher Learning and the Department of Veterans Affairs.  WTWO
  • Sidney Zoll Fulford, 25, a former Wabash Valley resident, is studying in Tel Aviv on a Fulbright Scholarship and is determined to stay despite missile strikes from the conflict with Iran—she earned her early education in Terre Haute and Clay County and is working toward a master’s in cyber politics and government. This news shows her resolve to continue her studies even as regional tensions remain high.  Tribune-Star

  • Vermillion County deputies warned drivers on State Road 63 southbound to use caution near County Road 850 North where the road began buckling—INDOT is enroute to assess the condition.  WTWO
