COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At the Vigo County Fairgrounds, Jess Abark was crowned fair princess and Chloe Guevara was crowned fair queen. Abark said she felt happy and ready to help her community — while Guevara looked forward to round-robin events — as they start their roles.  WTWO
  • Terre Haute matriarch Betty Tanoos Azar of St. George Orthodox Church celebrated her 100th birthday with hundreds of guests and recalled a childhood memory of meeting President Roosevelt — she also expressed love for her four children.  WTWO

CULTURE NEWS

  • A contest held yesterday at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds saw ten contestants vie for the Fair Queen title and seven for the Princess title (Chloe Guevara and Jessa Bark were named winners).  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Indiana Legislative Council approved 22 topics for study committees that lawmakers will review through the end of October — the list was narrowed from 400 suggestions using a bipartisan process. Lawmakers will assign panel members to study issues such as the value of public lands and medical debt to help plan new laws.  WTHI-TV
  • Indiana Department of Child Services announced on June 29th that it is reorganizing by eliminating three management layers—up to 40 employees may lose their jobs as the changes will take effect on July 1 to improve communication and decision-making.  Tribune-Star
  • The U.S. Supreme Court upheld a Texas law that requires adult websites to verify users' ages — a decision that validates Indiana’s similar statute and keeps the rule in place. The ruling means that age verification measures will continue to affect how websites operate.  Tribune-Star
