- ➤ Otha Don Watkins III, serving a 23-year sentence for armed bank robbery and other charges, was given an extra five years at the Terre Haute Federal Correctional Complex for fatally stabbing fellow inmate Carlos Shelton in 2023—he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and possessing contraband. - ➤ The Vigo County School Board announced a plan today to restructure its schools because of revenue troubles and fewer students—this plan closes four elementary schools, converts three middle schools to elementary schools, turns two high schools into middle schools with a new high school built for consolidation, and upgrades every building over the next 3–7 years. - ➤ Young people aged 16 to 24 will join the free 2025 E Camp in downtown Terre Haute from July 28 to Aug 1 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Participants gain real-world business skills through workshops—finishing the week earns up to $250 in startup funding and a certification in AI Essentials. - ➤ Indiana's public colleges and universities have agreed to freeze tuition and mandatory fees for in-state undergraduates for the 2025–2026 and 2026–2027 academic years—an effort led by Governor Mike Braun who urged institutions to streamline services without cutting quality.
