COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Shelburn Community Building opened its cooling station on Monday to help residents beat the heat with water donated by Casey’s General Store. Town Marshal Matthew Price said the center was open until early evening but might run longer if needed + it operates with a generator bought using a WIN Energy grant. WTWO
- ➤ Catholic Charities Terre Haute is hosting a Duck Tagging Party today at 5 p.m. at the Foodbank on North Fourteenth and a Half Street where volunteers can tag 15,000 yellow ducks for the upcoming Rubber Duck Regatta plus the regatta is set for July 4 at 7 p.m. with prizes of $10,000 and up to $1 million and proceeds supporting efforts to fight hunger and homelessness. - ➤ Terre Haute businessman and philanthropist Greg Gibson was named as an Indiana Living Legend by the Indiana Historical Society. The 2025 honorees will be celebrated on August 15 at the Indiana History Center in Indianapolis — Michael Browning, Cathy Langham and Myra Shelby are also recognized. Tribune-Star

- ➤ Duke Energy advises customers to set thermostats high, use cooler water for laundry, and close curtains as Indiana faces warmer days—offering free home energy assessments and bill payment assistance to help save money and energy. WTWO
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Vigo County Schools superintendent proposed a plan Monday evening that will consolidate the district into two high schools and four middle schools—four schools will close and several buildings will be repurposed to better serve students. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Indiana schools must teach lessons on consent and human growth as Senate Bill 442 takes effect on July 1—signed by Gov. Mike Braun after heated debates, the law requires parental consent for adding some materials and mandates that curricula be posted online. WTWO
- ➤ Indiana’s Jobs for America’s Graduates program is set to shrink from 250 to 30 or fewer sites by June 30—state and federal dollars have dried up amidst deep budget cuts. Workforce leaders and educators say the funding crisis will force closures and job losses while they seek new ways to support at-risk students. WTHI-TV
