The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the 12 Under 40 awards that honor young professionals making a difference in work and community.

Nominees who live or work in West Central Indiana and are under 40 by January 1 must be submitted by July 15 — winners will be recognized at the chamber's annual meeting on August 21 and featured in a special publication.

Farm Credit Mid-America, Rural 1st & Purdue Extension Vigo County have partnered to launch a state-wide food drive contest that will benefit local food banks and run during the Vigo County Fair from July 5 to July 12.

Community members who donate at least 10 non-perishable items between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday will receive a free fair ticket while fairs compete for cash prizes.

A Terre Haute man, David Childress aged 34, was arrested in Clay County on June 16 after a traffic stop revealed a large amount of methamphetamine, loaded handguns, and U.S. Currency in his vehicle—officials later found additional drugs and firearms at his home.

A Maryland man and an Illinois man were arrested in Vigo County on Friday night for shooting two whitetail deer from a roadway—officials charged them with illegal take, shooting from a roadway, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and jacklighting, and three guns were seized as evidence—while the deer were donated to local families.

Indiana State University announced that Seth Hinshaw will serve as its new vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer.

He will assume his role on Aug. 1.

Community Connections at Indiana State University began Monday and will run weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through June 27th to help second through fifth graders practice writing, STEM, and art.

Drivers in western Vigo County should expect a road closure on U.S. Highway 150 as the Indiana Department of Transportation repairs concrete under the railroad bridge north of West Terre Haute near Marion Heights.

County Commissioner Chris Switzer said the work will last 10 days—detours are available via Pennington Road to State Road 63 and U.S. Highway 40.

The Indiana Department of Transportation announced that beginning Wednesday, crews will close the ramp on U.S. 41 northbound to State Road 63 in Vigo County for surface-level repairs, including aggregate replacement, resurfacing and curb work, and maintenance is expected to last one day weather permitting — drivers should plan alternative routes. Minor flooding continues along the Wabash River at Montezuma and Wildcat Creek near Lafayette through today, though both are forecast to fall below flood stage later.

Casey Foundation—up two spots from last year—but faces rising child and teen deaths and an increase in low birthweight babies. The report also notes improvements in overweight rates and a drop in uninsured children, though the state still trails the national average.
