COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Monday night, the Greater Terre Haute NAACP and Wabash Valley Habitat for Humanity explained the affordable housing program that builds new homes for families earning between $30,000—$56,000 and urged community support to help residents secure stable homes.  WTWO

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fatal collision occurred Monday morning at the intersection of US 40 and Chamberlain when a black Tesla ran a red light and struck a red Toyota 4-Runner which left one driver injured and another dead — crash investigators reconstructed the scene.  WTHI-TV
  • Authorities released the name of Darrell Savant (80) of Terre Haute, who was killed in a two-vehicle crash that occurred about 8 p.m. on June 12 at Rio Grande Avenue and Greencastle Road in northern Vigo County.  Tribune-Star
  • On Monday afternoon at 1 p.m.—in the Walmart South parking lot at 5555 S. U.S. 41— a driver accidentally ran into pedestrians and several people were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries as investigators continue to look into the incident.  Tribune-Star

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce and Tribune-Star announced that nominations are open for the annual 12 Under 40 awards recognizing local young professionals. A flood warning is active for the Wabash River at Montezuma following heavy weekend rains — flooding is expected to end early Thursday morning, though more rain may cause additional issues later in the week.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita and 55 other attorneys general secured a $7.4 billion settlement with the Sackler family and Purdue Pharma to hold them accountable for their role in the opioid crisis. The agreement ends Sackler control of Purdue Pharma and will provide Indiana governments up to $100 million over 15 years for addiction treatment, prevention, and recovery programs—pending bankruptcy court approval.  WTHI-TV
  • The city of Terre Haute is asking residents for input on which CSX railroad crossings need repairs. City officials said they are in discussions with CSX to focus on fixes at crossings that impact daily commutes and neighborhood safety.  Tribune-Star
  • The Indiana Department of Transportation will remove confusing overhead amber flashing lights that mislead drivers at intersections in west central Indiana today and replace them with LED-flashing ground signs (a change meant to reduce crashes) as crews work on the update (officials explained).  WTHI-TV
