  • Campers from Terre Haute Parks Department visited Fire Station 8 today to learn fire safety tips and watch firefighters put on turnout gear — a demonstration that showed children how to call 911, remember their home address, and know a parent's phone number. Crews from Medic 8C and Engine 2C joined the visit to make the lesson engaging.  WTHI-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A nurse saved a 10-year-old girl at Racoon Lake after she became unresponsive in the water when her grandfather pulled her from the beach—officers on river rescue training worked with EMS and Bellmore Fire Department, and she was airlifted to Riley Children’s Hospital after receiving oxygen.  WTWO

CRIME NEWS

  • A 71-year-old man was arrested in Bloomingdale after firing his handgun at people in a moving vehicle on Monday night near Hilltop Road and U.S. Highway 41, authorities said, and he is held at Parke County Jail on charges of criminal recklessness with a firearm and intimidation with a deadly weapon (no bond set).  WTWO
  • A suspect was arrested in Linton on Sunday after a man's body was found in a burning trailer; 39 (Brandon Criss) faces charges of murder, arson and animal cruelty, with witnesses saying he was seen covered in blood and bragged about the killing.  WTHI-TV
  • On Tuesday, May 6, investigators from the Terre Haute Police Department joined the Indiana State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in Indianapolis for a press conference on Safe Online Summer aimed at catching child predators, and during April the operation received 1,782 cyber tips and started 21 investigations that led to multiple arrests—sending a strong warning to offenders.  WTHI-TV

  • Art Spaces will dedicate its newest sculpture, A View from the Porch by artist Reinaldo Correa Díaz, in Deming Park on Thursday near a stone bridge by a large pond. The program will begin at 5:15 p.m. — state and local officials, the Indiana Arts Commission, and descendants of Lost Creek will speak during the event.  Tribune-Star
  • Hoosier Aviation is hosting the historic C-47 aircraft (That's All, Brother) that led the D-Day invasion, and ground tours start today while ride experiences will be available for Saturday and Sunday, June 14-15.  WTHI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Indiana’s Department of Health reported that the infant death rate dropped from 6.6 to 6.3 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2024 according to provisional data—this decline may mark the lowest rate since tracking began in 1900.  Tribune-Star
  • Between May 27 and June 6, the Vigo County Health Department found over 60 food code violations at nine restaurants — including Golden Corral, Cackleberries, and El Patron—ranging from improper food storage to unsanitized surfaces, while several other establishments were approved to operate.  WTHI-TV
