COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Special Olympics Indiana Summer Games were held Friday through Sunday at Indiana State University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Vigo Bowl and the Terre Haute Bowling Center where over 2,000 athletes competed in sports such as swimming, track and field and weightlifting. Flood warnings remain in effect for the White River and the Wabash River near Montezuma with rising water levels and minor flooding expected to subside late Wednesday — residents are urged to avoid flooded roads and exercise caution near riverbanks. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Early Monday, firefighters battled a severe blaze on South Center Street in Terre Haute that damaged several homes and displaced residents north of the fire while those to the south remained safe—city crews later demolished hazardous sections as investigators work to determine the cause. - ➤ On Saturday, court documents showed that an SUV driven by Misty Casey sped down Oak Street, ignored stop signs, and collided with a pickup truck at Oak and 13th Streets, killing two juveniles and injuring two others while the pickup driver was lightly hurt, and Casey now faces charges for operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a blood alcohol level of .22 & positive for THC. - ➤ The Terre Haute Fire Department responded to two structure fires—one at 1111 7th Ave on Saturday where light smoke was controlled without displacing the family, and an early Sunday fire at 712 South Center Street where heavy smoke and flames led to a roof collapse that displaced a nearby resident, with remaining sections demolished and the cause under investigation. - ➤ The Terre Haute Fire Department said no one was injured in two structure fires over the weekend—one started Sunday evening at 1111 7th Ave and was quickly controlled, while a more damaging blaze early Monday morning had its cause ruled accidental. Tribune-Star

- ➤ Walter the Goldendoodle helps children aged 5 to 19 build reading confidence at the 12 Points branch of the Vigo County Public Library by offering calm, patient reading sessions. Limited spots require advance registration—calls to the library are needed to join the program. WTHI-TV
