COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Gloria Yoder, an Amish cook, said her family grew when her sister Mary Grace began caring for a newborn from the foster system after a church member called two years ago—this decision led to the baby's adoption into the family.  Tribune-Star

CULTURE NEWS

  • Terre Haute will host the annual Sixth Street ArtsFest on Saturday, June 14 in the 41.40 Arts and Cultural District, where local artists and performers will turn Sixth Street from Wabash to Cherry into a lively village—featuring art and interactive demonstrations. The free event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and include stage shows, art displays, and a creative area for children.  WTHI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Vigo County School Corporation is offering free summer lunches today at 11:30 a.m. at the Learning Lab—this program is scaled back from last summer due to reduced government funding—and the Boys and Girls Club and public are invited to attend.  WTHI-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Indiana ranks 25th in child well-being as the Kids Count Data Book was released today with data from the Indiana Youth Institute and the Annie E. Casey Foundation, and a flood warning is in effect for the Wabash River at Montezuma where officials warn motorists to avoid flooded roads + expect up to an inch more rain through tomorrow night. The rising water has already flooded several hundred acres of bottomlands and is expected to crest at 15.8 feet before falling below flood stage late Wednesday morning.  Tribune-Star
