COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Griffin Bike Park began constructing a new 3,300 square foot headquarters southeast of Terre Haute that will offer office space, bike rentals, and a venue for community events, funded by state grants + local donations, and it is planned to open by August 1.  WTWO
  • Vigo County CASA is hosting Pirate Palooza today for about 400 children featuring pirate costumes, obstacle courses, bounce houses and giveaways. The event is sponsored by Bogey’s, Pepsi, Elks Lodge 86 and the Putnamville Correction Facility — offering a fun way to kick off summer for kids who rarely get opportunities for grand vacations.  WTWO

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce will hold its 112th Annual Meeting on August 21 at the Terre Haute Convention Center from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.—the event will bring West Central Indiana businesses and community members together to celebrate past accomplishments, unveil future initiatives and announce annual awards including the Building Business Award, the Leading Tomorrow Award and the Building Community Award.  WTWO

CRIME NEWS

  • Percy Clark pleaded guilty to a federal charge of wire fraud conspiracy for inflating student enrollment to defraud the education department of $44 million—he helped run two defunct online schools that closed in 2019.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Kiwanis Club of Terre Haute will award bicycles to 20 elementary school scholars in Vigo and Sullivan counties on Monday+ the program is part of the B.U.G. Program in local elementary schools.  Tribune-Star
  • Three Rose-Hulman Institute faculty and staff were recognized for their strong teaching, scholarship, and service — Daniel Chang received the Outstanding Teacher Award while Tim Grose earned the Outstanding Scholar Award as part of the institute's commitment to student success.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jim Bopp Jr., a lawyer from Terre Haute, was appointed by the governor to the Indiana University Board of Trustees—he said he is honored to use his legal skills to guide the university and its students.  WTHI-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Terre Haute native DJ Shouse, a local basketball trainer, spoke live with David and Jen about his new Benny the Beast book series that includes five books aimed to motivate kids, and he uses his high school, college, and semi-pro basketball background — helping young players learn to play and work hard.  WTWO
  • Thousands of athletes, volunteers, and supporters have gathered in Terre Haute this weekend for Special Olympics Indiana’s Summer Games, where competitors are taking part in swimming at Rose-Hulman and volleyball, track and field, and pickleball at Indiana State. The free events offer a chance for everyone to share in the excitement and strong team spirit — a key feature of the games.  WTWO
