CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Later this summer, a small American flag will be raised to honor Captain John Jacob Perry Blinn (a young Terre Haute Civil War soldier) at Woodlawn Cemetery. The installation will mark the first dedicated acknowledgment of his legacy. Tribune-Star
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ North Vigo High School graduates Camden Bacon and Lucy Wessel were named Carl S. Riddle Scholars during Sunday's commencement at Hulman Center, where they were recognized for scholarship, leadership (and school spirit). Tribune-Star
- ➤ At Rose-Hulman's 148th commencement on Saturday, nearly 500 graduates received their degrees (including 60 who earned both bachelor's and master's) and 55% of undergraduates graduated with honors. They were urged to lead with integrity and use their talents to make a positive impact on the world. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Indiana State University student-athletes earned a third-place finish in MVC Academic Awards for the 2025-26 academic year — a reflection of their balanced excellence in sports and studies. Tribune-Star
- ➤ The Vigo County School Board meets today at 6 p.m. at Terre Haute South Vigo High School to tour recent upgrades and hear a presentation from the adult woodworking class. Tribune-Star
- ➤ The Terre Haute Children's Museum will launch its summer messy camps for children ages 4 to 13 this June — 17 unique camps offer hands-on activities like messy chemistry and outer space discoveries, with scholarships available for qualifying families. WTHI-TV
- ➤ Muse Art in Terre Haute is enrolling students for its summer art program, which includes painting, drawing and comics and a portfolio boot camp for high school seniors. Classes run in the morning through the end of July and the center is recruiting instructors for ceramics, jewelry, beadwork and calligraphy. WTHI-TV
- ➤ The Vigo County School Board approved an amended contract with Gibraltar Design on Monday as the Indianapolis firm will develop a comprehensive facility plan (teachers and students will give feedback on new classroom designs). Tribune-Star
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ INDOT crews continue work near the Vigo County Courthouse; they are removing old pavement on Ohio Street — a necessary project for safe roadways — and repairing Cherry Street near the Social Security office. Lanes are restricted and traffic is congested, with work set to finish by September. WTHI-TV
- ➤ Mayor Brandon Sakbun will host Mingle with the Mayor on June 9 from 3 to 4 p.m. at Grand Traverse Pie Company, 75 N. 3rd Street + the event offers a relaxed forum for residents to share their ideas. Tribune-Star
