COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday morning, Shelburn held its second annual farmers market in the old bank parking lot in front of the police department — the event happens monthly and lets locals buy fresh and homemade goods while inviting new vendors to apply at town hall and the library.  WTWO

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Spectrum—the No. 1 rural internet provider—announced it will expand its internet, mobile, TV and voice services to over 2,300 rural homes and businesses in Vigo County. The expansion is expected to bring improved connectivity to areas with limited service.  Tribune-Star

CRIME NEWS

  • Percy Clark, a director at an Indiana online charter school from Carmel, pleaded guilty on June 1 to conspiracy to commit wire fraud—he admitted inflating enrollment figures to secure extra state education funds and now faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine or twice the amount gained.  Tribune-Star
  • Three people were injured in a shooting early Sunday on the 3100 block of Schaal Avenue (police said).  Tribune-Star

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Swope Art Museum is closed for renovations until January 2026 for a $6.5 million upgrade that replaces the old elevator, adds a new stairway and art storage, builds an education center and updates the HVAC—improvements meant to better protect its art and improve access. Fred Nation said this is the museum's first major renovation in 25 years.  WTHI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Terre Haute North, Terre Haute South and West Vigo High Schools held their 2025 commencements on Sunday. West Vigo held its ceremony in the school's gym—the Jim Mann Green Dome—while North and South celebrated in the Hulman Center.  Tribune-Star
  • Megan Hinze—a senior at Terre Haute South Vigo High School—was awarded the first endowed Math or Science Educator Scholarship by the Vigo County Education Foundation. She will attend Indiana University this fall to major in secondary math education.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • FSSA Secretary Mitch Roob said Gov. Braun inherited a messy Medicaid program and child care system with rising costs for ABA therapy and attendant care, and he plans to reshape spending to prevent future deficits. He spoke at the Indiana Fiscal Policy Institute’s Policy Summit in Indianapolis and explained that these issues have led to nearly $1 billion in Medicaid shortfalls and a loss of over 20,000 daycare slots — challenges he aims to address over the next four years.  WTHI-TV
