COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Karen Dyer, executive director of the Terre Haute Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), gave an upbeat tourism update report on Thursday morning at the convention center, addressing 75 industry partners including restauranteurs and hoteliers.  Tribune-Star
  • Terre Haute’s Turn to the River Project will break ground this fall to create a new public space linking downtown and the Wabash River+ local partners have secured funding that avoids tax dollars. The project is expected to open to the public by next year.  WTHI-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Federal Coffee will close Sunday and a new coffee shop, Max’s Brewhouse — named in honor of Max Ehrmann who wrote 'Desiderata' — will soon replace it at the same location, the business announced Wednesday via its new Facebook page.  Tribune-Star

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Wabash Valley Audubon Society and Dobbs Park Nature Center are hosting the eighth annual Terre Haute Bird Festival this Saturday from noon until 5 p.m. at Dobbs Park, where visitors can join a bird hike, enjoy crafts and games — only cash is accepted for festival merchandise.  WTHI-TV
  • The Larry Bird Museum at the Terre Haute Convention Center celebrates its two-year anniversary as it continues to welcome nearly 19,000 visitors from around the world since opening in June 2024. The museum highlights community investments that boost tourism and economic development.  Tribune-Star

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Indiana gas prices are the lowest in the nation at $3.90 per gallon following Gov. Mike Braun’s suspension of gas taxes — he said he will review extending the break in early June.  WTHI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, Terre Haute South Vigo High School valedictorians and salutatorians shared their post-graduation plans (college, career, and personal goals) with the Class of 2026.  Tribune-Star
  • CNHI and the Tribune-Star continue their Kids & Screens series that shows how students in our area adapt to digital life. The series features views from local students and educators and highlights efforts by leaders to adjust screen time policies.  Tribune-Star
  • Excel Center of West Central Indiana is set to hold its third graduation ceremony tomorrow for students earning an Indiana Core 40 diploma and a career certification; free childcare helped students focus on their studies *supporting local education efforts*.  WTHI-TV
  • Kensington Heath from Terre Haute South Vigo High School celebrated a well-rounded career with achievements in theater, choir, academic competitions, and community service, and her Academic Super Bowl team reached state finals. She now prepares for her next steps after graduation.  Tribune-Star

HEALTH NEWS

  • Preliminary state health data shows Indiana’s infant mortality rate held steady at a record low of 6.3 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2025 (500 deaths reported so far versus 509 in 2024).  Tribune-Star
  • The Indiana Youth Institute encourages local adults to support children’s mental health during Mental Health Awareness Month. The group says kids thrive when they feel connected to caring adults and safe spaces — a reminder to act before a crisis starts.  WTHI-TV

  • The Meadows shopping center in Terre Haute is for sale as its current owner, HJH Investments, lists the property on Crexi.com; the site, bought in summer 2022, now has 79% occupancy.  WTHI-TV
