COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Terre Haute Farmers Market will host the free GrowTH Club every Saturday starting May 31 — from 8 a.m. until noon at Meadows Parking Lot on 2700 Poplar Street — offering kids booth activities on nutrition, physical wellness, and gardening. Each participant will receive a $3 coupon to buy produce from market vendors if supplies last.  WTHI-TV
  • Vigo County Commissioner Mark Clinkenbeard and his wife Dawn will host the 5th Annual A Pint for Mark Community Blood Drive on June 24 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Vigo County Annex Building at 147 Oak Street—Clinkenbeard survived a 2020 car accident while mowing his lawn and nearly lost 75% of his blood, an experience that inspires the drive which has collected 140 blood products and helped over 420 lives.  WTHI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Indiana State University has changed the official name of its Charles E. Brown Cultural Center by removing 'African American'—the sign still shows the old name while the center now takes a broader cultural focus. Local historian Dr. Crystal Reynolds said the decision shifts the center away from solely highlighting African American heritage.  WTHI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • State Rep. Tonya Pfaff announced she will retire from teaching at the end of this school year after 32 years at Terre Haute North Vigo High School — she said the bittersweet decision will not stop her advocacy for public education as she continues to serve in the legislature.  WTHI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Terre Haute will unveil its new brand and logo at 10:30 a.m. this Thursday outside City Hall—Mayor Sakbun said the new look is designed to attract and retain families while website updates and infrastructure changes are planned.  WTHI-TV
  • Indiana farmers achieved legislative wins this session with property tax tweaks and an online portal (though a plan to help retiring farmers transition land did not pass).  Tribune-Star

HEALTH NEWS

  • Heart to Heart Inc. received a $3,000 donation from the Duke Energy Foundation to help provide accurate pregnancy information and ease transportation challenges for clients. Kurt Phegley and Executive Director Paige Williams presented the check at a funding event.  WTHI-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Special Olympics Indiana’s annual Summer Games will take place in Terre Haute from June 6 to 8 at Indiana State University — Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Over 5,000 athletes, partners, coaches, volunteers and spectators will gather and 2,400 athletes will compete in seven Olympic-type sports including bocce, bowling, cycling, powerlifting, swimming, track and field and volleyball.  Tribune-Star
