The annual downtown Terre Haute Strawberry Festival will take place on June 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at First Congregational Church located at 630 Ohio Street — organized in collaboration with Chances and Services for Youth.

Veteran broadcast journalist Patrece Dayton—known for her trusted local reporting—will join WTWO part-time to deliver special reports on issues that affect residents.

Her work will help keep our community informed about key local events.

The 41|40 Pedestrian Wayfinding Project in Terre Haute is nearly complete as new signs help residents and visitors locate local landmarks — galleries and venues in the arts and cultural district.

The project is led by Arts Illiana and the 41|40 Advisory Committee with support from local government groups.

Cleanup efforts at the former Columbian Enameling site nearly finished after crews removed 19,000 tons of asbestos by April 30.

The city secured a federal Brownfield Assessment Grant for soil testing at 10 sites and the Department of Redevelopment will soon seek a developer—Mayor Brandon Sakbun noted the challenge of syncing work from two federal administrations.

Indiana received USDA approval to remove sugary drinks and candy from SNAP benefits as part of its Make Indiana Healthy Again initiative—Gov. Mike Braun said the change is meant to shift spending from sugary items to fruits and vegetables.

West Terre Haute will upgrade its water tower on May 28 that will cut water for out-of-town customers from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.—a Boil Order Advisory will follow while Ferguson Hill and Toadhop residents remain unaffected.

Local Indiana State Police advised drivers to prepare for heavy travel on Memorial Day weekend by checking vehicles and planning safe routes.

Sgt. Matt Ames said drivers should be well-rested, fueled up, and avoid distracted driving — keeping their full attention on the road.
