COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Wednesday afternoon, many local residents who care about the Wabash River met in a room on the upper floor of the Terre Haute History Center—showing their strong support for the river. The meeting highlighted that the river is a cherished part of Hoosier life.  Tribune-Star
  • The Terre Haute Police Department will host its third annual block party on May 31 — offering food, rides, games, face painting, and more free-of-charge at the department. Lieutenant Justin Sears said the event builds lasting relationships with local families and children.  WTWO

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Crews responded to a crash of a historic WWII-era TBM Avenger at Terre Haute Regional Airport just before 2:00 p.m. on Thursday— the pilot was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital and the co-pilot walked away with no major injuries as the FAA began investigating the incident.  WTHI-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • The first week of William Grimes' trial concluded in Sullivan County, where he is accused of killing 85-year-old Lowell Badger during a December 2012 burglary attempt — several witnesses alleged that Grimes confessed to the murder as the trial continues with closing arguments expected early next week.  WTHI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Mike Braun signed an official proclamation today making it Indiana’s 15th annual Kids to Parks Day to encourage families to play outdoors. The day will help kids learn about taking care of parks and enjoying nature (with events planned across the state).  WTWO
  • The EPA reported Friday that Wabash Valley Resources received final permits to build two injection wells for carbon dioxide storage — one in West Terre Haute and one in Vermillion County — with no changes from the 2024 permits and without extra public comment.  Tribune-Star

HEALTH NEWS

  • After 513 days at Riley Hospital for Children, Brilea Southard returned home in Terre Haute on Friday after being critically injured in a car accident in December 2023.  Tribune-Star
